Another popular poker hand is a straight, which consists of five consecutive cards of the same suit. The order of the cards can be aces, kings, queens, jacks, and tens, but they must all be in the same suit. If more than one player has a straight, then the highest card breaks the tie.
Other common poker hands include the flush, which consists of five cards of the same suit in a sequence, and three of a kind, which contains three cards of the same rank plus two other matching cards. The highest of these pairs wins the pot, and ties are broken by the highest single card.
In addition to the various types of poker hands, players can use a number of expressions to communicate during the course of a hand. Saying “call” means that you wish to bet the same amount as the person before you, which is usually a small amount of money such as chips. You may also raise your bet, which is a more substantial amount and encourages other players to follow suit.
